About us

Dr George Chan - Director/producer

I’ve worked in TV and film for eighteen years after joining the BBC to work with Sir David Attenborough on the series State of the Planet.  I’ve been fortunate to  travel the world producing and directing on internationally renowned documentaries and I now bring a wealth of high quality broadcast experience to research and enterprise taking place in the UK. My early career started with a PhD in Evolutionary Biology and I have continued to work alongside scientists and researchers on an almost daily basis – translating and bringing discoveries and ideas to life on screen.  It’s been a real privilege to be able to film ground-breaking research and meet the people behind it.

Jodie Harris - Editor

I’m a video editor and science writer with fourteen years experience working within government, research councils, large charities and academic institutions. I have a Masters in Entrepreneurship in Science and Technology and in a previous life, I was a researcher for the BBC and a Hollywood feature film! I specialise in environmental and health sciences and am skilled at making sure your project can resonate with different audiences from schools to policymakers.  Although my primary focus is video production, I’m also an experienced publications editor and can help with your supporting articles, web pages and reports.  At Bluefire films, we like to think of the whole communications package.

Our strengths

Small agency big benefit

Unlike many agencies, we promise never to delegate the management of your project to junior staff. We work as a small team to give you the best possible rates but on larger projects we use our connections with top professionals in the documentary industry. We can pull together a crew of BAFTA and EMMY award winning animators, composers, cameramen and sound recordists to support us.

Professional interviews

We always make sure your interviewees are able to give their very best performance. Being in front of camera can be intimidating - but it shouldn't be. George is a highly experienced interviewer who has worked with everyone from celebrities to scientists sitting in front of camera for the first time. We take pride in our ability to be acutely perceptive to people's characters and play to their strengths.

Science and media expertise

By combining our creative and scientific strengths we can translate your work into something really engaging. We promise to only employ people with both a science and media background as we think this is crucial in producing quality films for your sector - and sets us apart from the rest. We have covered everything from statistical modelling and chemical engineering to chess and steam trains. No subject is beyond our ability to turn into film!

Technical know how

George is a BBC-trained self-shooting director. We use small High Definition (HD) camera rigs to keep costs down without compromising on quality. Maintaining a presence in the TV industry means we keep up to date with changing technology, and have contacts with TV and Commercials crews to hire in for big projects. We can provide animated films from award winning digital animators and data visualization experts.
