My love of nature led to a degree in Zoology and a PhD in Evolutionary Biology.
I joined the BBC Natural History Unit in 1997 to work with Sir David Attenborough on the series State of the Planet. Other NHU films include Planet Earth, BBC4’s award-winning Ape Hunter, and Nile.
I have produced and directed films for the BBC on subjects as diverse as Gambling and Wolves. My 2004 film Natural World: Hammerhead had a specially commissioned score by composer Brian Eno, and was narrated by Sir Ian Holm.
I made an episode of the series Wild China called: BEYOND THE GREAT WALL. The series was one of the biggest BBC Landmark series of 2008, and took two-and-a-half years to make.
In 2004 I set up the BBC Film Lab which gives young BBC directors the chance to direct their first short drama films for festival release. I have produced, directed and/or exec. produced 18 short dramas for the Film Lab.
My short film 'Trapped' premiered at the LA Short Film Festival in Hollywood. It has been featured at Encounters Film Festival in Bristol, London Short Film Festival and will show at the Dresden Film Festival in April. TRAPPED is represented by SHORTS INTERNATIONAL and will be available on iTunes in 2010.
